PETERBOROUGH-Police say the execution of warrants in Peterborough has resulted in the seizure of drugs, paraphernalia, cell phones, and a prohibited weapon. Six people were arrested.
On September 28, 2023, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Peterborough Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) assisted by the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), City of Kawartha Lakes CSCU, and members of Peterborough County Detachment of the OPP uniform members executed search warrants at two different locations within Peterborough city.
As a result of the searches, six individuals have been arrested and a quantity of Cocaine, Fentanyl, Oxycodone, drug paraphernalia, cell phones, Canadian currency, and a prohibited weapon have been seized according to police.
Kian Smith (age 31) of St. Hubert, QC, was arrested and charged with:
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin)
·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime-under $5000 – in Canada
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – other Drugs
·      Possession of Prohibited device or ammunition for Dangerous Purpose
Elvis Atta (age 23) of Toronto, ON., was arrested and charged with:
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid (other than Heroin)
·      Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime-under $5000 – in Canada
·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – other Drugs
Both accused were held for Bail and are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
Alexis Irwin (age 30) of Selwyn Township, ON., was arrested on outstanding Firearm and Drug related warrants and was also held for Bail and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough according to police.
Gregory Wedemire (age 40) of Peterborough, ON., was arrested and charged with:
·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than Heroin)
·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 7, 2023.
Both Kyle Barker (age 38) and James Lowes (age 57) of no fixed address were arrested on outstanding warrants and released with a new court date.
