Understanding The Indigenous Roots Of Balsam Lake With First Nations Historian

KAWARTHA LAKES-Chief of the Alderville Band and First Nations historian, Dave Mowat is passionate about understanding the treaty and settlement history of Alderville, Balsam Lake and the Mississauga Nation as a whole.

According to the Balsam Lake Association Mowat acquired his knowledge over the decades and including academic pursuits.

The Association is hosting Chief Mowat at the Coboconk Legion on Saturday, August 19 at 10 am in order to allow residents to gain a better understanding of the Indigenous roots of Balsam Lake. Mayor Doug Elmslie will be in attendance to share the City of Kawartha Lakes strategic plan. Officials from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters will discuss protecting Balsam Lake from invasive species.

The event is free.
