Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Parts Of Kawartha Lakes

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Kawartha Lakes.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from McRae Point Provincial Park to Thornhill, moving east at 55 km/h with 90 km/h wind gusts and quarter size hail.

Locations impacted include: Little Britain, Cameron, Kenrei Park, Downeyville, Reaboro, Oakwood, Glenarm, Fowlers Corners,Markham, Beaverton, Uxbridge, Port Perry, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Sutton, Sibbald Point Provincial Park, Whitchurch-Stouffville, Sunderland, Cannington, Scugog, Belhaven, Maple Hill, Gormley, Cedar Valley, Baldwin, Georgina Island, Unionville and Mount Albert.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall
