Third Firearm Seized In Peterborough Since January, Drug And Gun Charges Laid

PETERBOROUGH-A 28-year-old Peterborough man and a 29-year-old Ajax man are facing drug and firearm charges after a loaded handgun and drugs were seized in Peterborough.

This is the third firearm seized by Peterborough Police since January 2023.

Officers with the Peterborough Police Drug Unit arrested the two men, one during a traffic stop near Ravenwood Drive and Melody Crescent  and the second during a search warrant at a residence in the Louden Terrace and Avery Avenue area on Thursday.

Within the residence police say officers found:

  • Loaded handgun
  • 133.2g Cocaine
  • 1.6g Fentanyl
  • $2,970.00 Canadian currency
  • Weigh scales
  • Vacuum packaging
  • Multiple cellphones

As a result,

A 28-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, April 14, 2023

A 29-year-old Ajax man was arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Four counts of fail to comply with release order

The accused is currently bound by a recognizance of bail with the following conditions to not possess any unlawful substances, drug paraphernalia, weapons, or more than one cellphone and is being held in custody but will appear in court today, April 14, 2023.

Peterborough Police no longer release the names of people charged with crimes.
