Winter Weather Travel Advisory In Effect For Our Area

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Winter Weather Travel Advisory and a Special Weather Statement for our area.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

Strong winds gusting to 70 to 80 km/h expected today with snow mixed with ice pellets at times and a risk of freezing rain.

Wet snow will continue for a few hours and may become mixed with ice pellets or freezing rain at times before transitioning over to rain near noon or this afternoon.

In addition, strong winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h are expected this evening through tonight. High winds may toss loss objects or cause small tree branches to break. Local power outages are possible.

Weather advisory in effect for:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes

Winter weather travel advisory in effect for this afternoon and this evening with snowfall amounts of 7 to 14 cm, a risk of freezing rain and reduced visibility in heavy snow at times.

Snow is forecast to begin near noon or early this afternoon. The snow may become mixed with freezing rain or ice pellets at times. Snow may change to or become mixed with rain tonight.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.
