KAWARTHA LAKES-There was an industrial accident at SGS in Lakefield this morning that resulted in an area around the plant being restricted to public access.
Officials said the move was being made out of an abundance of caution. Access to SGS has been limited to emergency and relevant response services. Emergency services responded to the area due to a “concerning smell” with one person take to hospital as a precaution.
“SGS has hazardous materials technicians on-site to manage response which is localized to the SGS site.” said Selwyn Township in a press release.
Selwyn Fire Department and Peterborough Police are on-scene for site support.
“Residents are assured that this industrial accident is confined to the SGS property. All appropriate regulatory agencies have been notified. SGS is in regular communication with the Township.” stated the township.
SGS bills itself as the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company. “Our #value2society is enabling a better, safer and more interconnected world.” says their website.
