Four Guns, Including Loaded Hand Gun And Hundreds Of Rounds Of Ammunition Seized At Residence East of Omemee

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha 411 news has learned the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on Hawke Road east of Omemee, seizing four guns, including one loaded handgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Neighbours contacted Kawartha 411 on February 6th saying they were concerned about the heavy police presence and erratic behaviour of a resident of the home.  “The OPP had made many appearances at the location over the last few weeks. The gentleman just finished building a bomb shelter in the back yard. I live on this street and I am worried about the situation as well as many of my neighbours.” explained the resident.

“On February 2, 2023 City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the assistance of the OPP Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), OPP Crisis Negotiator and OPP Central Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), safely apprehended the accused and executed the search warrant.” the OPP told Kawartha 411.

The accused, a 33-year-old male of Omemee, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Careless Storage of a Firearm – Section 91 (1)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 86 (1)

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay with an upcoming court date set later this month.
