Lindsay Boy Who Raised $400 To Buy Toys For Kids In Need, Now Needs Our Help

KAWARTHA LAKES-Blake Lacroix has already done a lot to help others in his young life. The five-year-old has donated food to the food bank and then held a yard sale raising $410 to buy toys for kids in need. Read more about that here: https://www.kawartha411.ca/2021/12/24/4-year-old-lindsay-boy-donates-61-new-toys-to-kinsmen-christmas-toy-drive-after-holding-yard-sales-to-raise-money/

Now Blake needs our help.

In early September Blake started having severe weakness on his right side, developing a limp and losing approximately 10 pounds. After numerous trips to various clinics and doctors, Blake’s parents took him to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. He was immediately admitted.

“We’re still unsure what our diagnosis is at this point.” said mom Jenny Lacroix. “There are many different teams of doctors working hard, around the clock to help my little boy. We know from two different MRI Scans, X-rays, Cat Scans, Spine Scans, Lumbar Puncture, Blood work and tons of Neurology Assessments that Blake has something very wrong with his brain. It could be a rare condition where his brain is swollen, it could be an infection in his brain or it could be an autoimmune disorder where his brain is attacking itself.”

That was September 10th. Blake is still in hospital with an undiagnosed illness. The scans found multiple lesions on his brain and over the past two weeks he has lost many of the things he learned up to this point. Jenny says they still don’t have a final diagnosis or a name just yet but doctors feel he has some sort of post-inflammatory infection disease.

“We don’t know why. Was it an Infection that was missed previously that just ran rapid through his body? Does he have a genetic disorder and this will be recurring? Can this be fixed? Will he return to normal? We don’t know. It could very much be an Autoimmune Disease that he was born with that is now presenting itself due to age. They are still uncertain.” Lacroix says.

Both of Blake’s parents, Jenny and Justin, have remained with him in hospital while Jenny’s parents care for their daughter at home in Lindsay. Blake is scheduled for a brain biopsy on Monday and his team at Sick Kids has cleared him to come home for the weekend and return on Monday but the family has a long road ahead.
With both parents not able to work the community has a number of fundraisers planned.
Funds from Trish’s Wish fundraiser, the LCVI Spirit Run on Oct 7th not requiring a tax receipt will go to Blake and his family.
There will be another fundraiser on Saturday, October 22 from 6pm-10pm at The Coach and Horses in Lindsay.  There will be Karaoke with announcements about putting donations in a jar when people come up to sing. They will have a karaoke where people can donate to put someone’s name in to sing. People can donate to get singers off the stage. They will have a silent auction table, a 50/50 draw, a dinner special and 15% of all sales from the bar will go towards the fundraiser. T-shirts will be for sale and a photo booth set up. If you would like to donate an item for the silent auction you can contact Linda Brown at 705-928-2464.
