Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Fenelon Falls, Northern Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough County

UPDATE:Apsley and Northern Peterborough County added to this alert

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of our area.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes

Officials say conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts of 90 to 100km/hr and large nickel to ping pong ball sized hail this afternoon.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
