Kirkfield Liftlock Closed For The Foreseeable Future

KAWARTHA LAKES-Parks Canada has announced the Kirkfield Liftlock will be closed for the foreseeable future leaving some boaters stranded.

Officials say the reason is due to ongoing mechanical issues and  Parks Canada advises boaters planning to transit the Kirkfield Lift Lock to revise their plans to avoid this location.
“Boaters intending to transit the entire TSW are advised that this will not be possible and should alter their travel plans accordingly.” said officials.

This isn’t the first lock to close this summer. The Big Chute Marine Railway experienced a hydraulic pump failure resulting in a closure recently. It has since reopened. Big Chute was also closed in July due to staffing shortages, leaving boaters stranded.
