20-Year-Old Peterborough Petes Prospect Dies During Pre-Season Tournament Game

PETERBOROUGH-The Peterborough Petes are mourning the loss of a 20-year-old prospect during a pre-season tournament game on Tuesday.

Eli Palfreyman was selected by the Petes 223rd overall in the 12th round from the Cambridge Hawks in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The Cambridge, Ont., native was captain of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s (GOJHL) Ayr Centennials. Officials say he passed away during a pre-season tournament game. No cause of death was released.

A statement from management said he also played soccer and baseball.

“The forward has attended several Petes Training Camps and Development Camps since being drafted by the Petes. Eli was also a high-level soccer player growing up, and was also a baseball enthusiast.” said Petes GM Michael Oke. “Our deepest sympathies go out to Eli’s family and all of his teammates and staff with Ayr. We’re keeping them in our thoughts and prayers”.
