KAWARTHA LAKES- It was a wonderful social connection, story sharing, prize-winning, cake cutting and much celebration as the Fenelon Falls Senior Citizens Club marked 50 years of service to the community.

Attending the celebration on a warm June day was Laurie Scott, M.P.P. Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes – Brock who took the opportunity to present to Jean Smith, the longstanding club president with a 50th Anniversary congratulatory scroll. Scott also stepped in to draw the winning grand raffle tickets. Congratulations were extended to all prize winners: 1st prize of $3000 cash ~ Anne Kulmala, who was in attendance to receive her prize, 2nd prize of $1500 Sobeys gift cards ~ Chris Handley, 3rd prize Dinner/Theatre Combo ~ Jan Craig Worrall, 4th prize tree/planting Rockwood ~ Heather Hume, 5th prize Gift certificate KATVA ~ John Ireland.

The Club thanked all those supporting the current fundraising efforts.

“There is much appreciation to all who bought tickets, sold tickets and helped promote the Club. It could not have been such a success without their energy and support. Many thanks to all the generous sponsors who have made this fundraising event and celebration possible at this time of such hardship for so many. It is never more evident than during difficult times the importance of supporting local businesses as they support our community. There is much appreciation and thanks to the community partners who have contributed to the corporate sponsor appeal, which has already demonstrated amazing generosity and commitment.” said a press release from the group.

According to officials “sustainability challenges” still exist, and efforts continue to raise much-needed funds. “Progress has been made but much more support is required.”

The Corporate and Business Partners appeal continues, as the Club endeavours to further secure a strong and viable future for this community asset at 58 Murray Street in Fenelon Falls.
