Kawartha Lakes Police Investigating Three Suspected Arsons In 24 Hours

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Police Service is investigating three suspicious fires that occurred in the late evening hours of July 1st, 2022, into the early morning hours of July 2nd, 2022 and are asking for help from the public.

Police say on July 1st, 2022, at 11:55 pm, officers responded to an address on Cambridge St. south between Durham St. west and George St after a suspicious fire was set in a breezeway between two homes. The fire was put out by homeowners before it caused significant damage. Shortly after midnight, Kawartha Lakes Police and Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue attended at an address on Mary St. West between Hamilton Street and James Street for a fire that had been set in a houseboat being stored on industrial property. While at the second fire, emergency services were dispatched to the area of Memorial Park on Lindsay St. south, where a fully engulfed porta-potty was discovered.

Police believe all of the fires are linked and are seeking the assistance of any homeowner or business in the area who may have security/dash camera footage from that evening to contact them.

All inquiries can be directed to Detective Constable Joe Bell at 705.324.6307 ex539 or to [email protected] .
