KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Parts of Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
- Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
- Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County
At 2:10 PM EST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing pea to dime size hail and heavy downpours.
This severe thunderstorm is located 6 kilometres north of Pontypool, moving east at 20 km/h. Locations impacted could include:
Bethany, Tapley, Millbrook, Fairmount and Fraserville.
Officials say heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Avoid driving through water on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
