PETERBOROUGH-A 20-year-old Peterborough man has been killed in a car accident in Calgary, Alberta.
Mitchell Donoghue died on the scene after a mid-morning accident at the intersection of Midlake Boulevard S.E. and Midpark Boulevard S.E. on Tuesday, according to police.
At approximately 10:30 am May 3, a collision occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Midlake Boulevard and Midpark Boulevard S.E.
It is believed Donoghue, driving a blue Chevrolet Camaro, was stopped at a red light while traveling northbound on Midpark Boulevard according to police.
A black Hyundai Santa Fe, being driven by a 79-year-old man, was travelling eastbound along Midlake Boulevard and crossed the concrete median separating north and southbound traffic on Midpark Boulevard.
Police say the Hyundai then entered the northbound lanes and struck the driver’s side of the Camaro, pushing the Camaro eastbound, until both vehicles crossed over the eastward sidewalk and broke through a rear garden fence of a home located in the 200 block of Midpark Gardens, coming to a rest on the grass near the garden.
“With so many of his loved ones living in Peterborough, Ontario our family is trying to raise money for the expenses involved in bringing him home to us.” said the family in a Go Fund Me campaign to raise funds. “For the process of grief and closure, we aim to hold a celebration of life and viewing in his hometown surrounded by all who love him. We thank and appreciate deeply for any and all contributions towards our cause.”
Donoghue moved to Calgary to be closer to his father according to Calgary news outlets. Almost $9,000 has been raised so far.
