KAWARTHA LAKES-The nomination period for the municipal election opens on May 2, 2022.
All nominations for the positions listed below must be made on the prescribed form available online or at the municipal Clerk’s Office. Excluding nominations for school board trustees, Nomination Forms for Mayor or Councillor must be filed, with the prescribed declaration of endorsement of nomination by at least 25 Kawartha Lakes electors. All required forms are to be hand delivered in person or by your agent to the Returning Officer by appointment only during normal office hours beginning Monday, May 2, 2022 to Thursday, August 18, 2022 and between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 (Nomination Day). Nominations Procedures:
A nomination must be signed by the candidate and may be filed by a candidate or by an agent in person by appointment only during regular business hours (City of Kawartha Lakes Office Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday)
On August 19, 2022 (Nomination Day) nominations may be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. only.
Nomination filing fees:
All nomination fees must be in cash, certified cheque, money order, debit card or credit card only.
The prescribed nomination-filing fee for the office of Mayor is $200.00. The prescribed nomination-filing fee for the office of Councillor or School Board Trustee is $100.00.
A candidate is entitled to receive a refund of the nomination filing fee if the documents required under subsection 88.25 (1) of the Municipal Elections Act are filed on or before 2:00 p.m. of the filing date in accordance with that subsection.
A nomination must be certified by the Clerk before such person becomes a certified candidate for the office to which they are nominated.
In the event that there is an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only, on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk as set out above.
Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said offices, voting will take place on the dates stated below.
Municipal Election Voting Period – Friday, October 14, 2022 to Monday, October 24, 2022.
Third Party Advertisers
Ontario residents, corporations and trade unions that will incur expenses for advertisements related to the promotion, support or opposition of a candidate on the ballot, in any broadcast, print, electronic, or other medium must register as a third party advertiser. They can begin filing their Notice of Registration on, Monday, May 2, 2022, at 8:30 am, by appointment only, at the Office of the City Clerk. Eligible electors will have the opportunity to vote at any time over 10 days, 2 ways from anywhere in the world by internet or telephone.
The 2022 Municipal Election will again be conducted using internet and telephone voting beginning 9:00 a.m. on October 14, 2022 until 8:00 p.m. October 24, 2022. Envelopes containing a PIN (personal identification number) with instructions will be mailed to all electors in late September. If you do not receive a PIN by October 7, 2022 please contact the City of Kawartha Lakes Election Office for assistance.
Computers and touch screen kiosks will be available at the Customer Service Centres and Libraries listed on the City website. After 4:30 p.m. on Election Day, October 24th, 2022 City Hall will be open until 8:00 p.m. to provide you with assistance. There will be no paper ballots or proxy voting.
