Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Drug Trafficking Among Numerous Charges Laid After Disturbance Near Glenarm

KAWARTHA LAKES-Four people are facing numerous charges as Kawartha Lakes OPP continues to investigate a disturbance in Eldon Township.

Police say on April 12, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., OPP officers responded to a disturbance call involving a firearm at a rural address in Eldon Township. Officers located a person on the property suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a Toronto trauma center and is recovering.

A search warrant was executed at the scene of the incident and a large amount of evidence was recovered. As a result of the investigation to date, OPP investigators have charged the following individuals:

Anthony Misasi, 54 years of age, from Kawartha Lakes with:

  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Murder, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  •  Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Kidnapping, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Robbery, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Trafficking, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code – 10 counts
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

This accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear on April 29, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.

Brooke Travis, 30 years of age, from Kawartha Lakes with:

  • Accessory after the Fact – Attempted Murder, contrary to section 463(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Accessory after the Fact – Robbery, contrary to section 463(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Accessory after the Fact – Kidnapping, contrary to section 463(a) of the Criminal Code

This accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear on June 2, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.

Mirza Beg, 26 years of age, from Pickering with:

  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Trafficking, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  • Failure to Comply with a Release Order, contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code

This accused was held for a bail hearing and is now scheduled to appear on April 29, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.

Sayed Sharifi, 27 years of age, from Pickering with:

  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence – Trafficking, contrary to Section 465 (1)(c) of the Criminal Code
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

This accused was held for a bail hearing and is now scheduled to appear on June 2, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit, Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
