Toronto Man Charged After Theft Of Patient Transport Van Parked In Front Of Ross Memorial Hospital

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Toronto man is facing charges after a patient transport van was stolen at Ross Memorial Hospital.

Police say on March 8, 2022 at 9:35am, Kawartha Lakes Police received a complaint after witnesses observed a male stealing a patient transport van that had been parked in front of Ross Memorial Hospital. 

With the assistance of witnesses, police quickly located the vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Angeline Street North but the vehicle allegedly refused to stop for police. The driver, drove down a dead-end street and came to a stop, where he was arrested by officers according to police

43-year-old Steven Smith of Toronto is charged with theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, flight from peace officer, dangerous operation and three Highway Traffic Act offences.

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay on April 14, 2022.
