KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for our area.
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
  • Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County

A messy mix of wintry weather beginning late Wednesday is expected.

Hazards:
Rain, 15 to 25 mm, late Wednesday through Thursday evening.
Freezing rain mixed with ice pellets possible, Thursday afternoon and evening.
Snow, at times heavy, Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm possible. Reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow, icy and slippery surfaces Wednesday evening through Friday.

Officials say road closures are possible and utility outages may occur.

A low pressure system is expected to track northeast across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Thursday night which could bring a messy mix of wintry precipitation to southern Ontario. Precipitation will likely begin as rain late Wednesday and transition to snow Thursday afternoon. Freezing rain and ice pellets are also possible Thursday afternoon and evening.

At this time the track of the low pressure system is uncertain, and as such precipitation type, timing and amounts may change.
