KAWARTHA LAKES-A Peterborough woman who is legally blind won the top award in the Spirit of the Hills Art Association Competition with her 3’ x’5’ acrylic on canvas art entitled, “Blossom”.
Born into a family of artisans, Lynda Todd always had an affinity to art, although did not take herself seriously as an artist as she was born legally blind and mostly colour blind. On the encouragement of Valerie Kent of Cavan Art Gallery, she started acrylic abstract painting.
Her desire to explore and express creativity has resulted in unique colour choices melded with interesting use of texture. This way of working has blended strongly with her desire to communicate and elicit the visual world.
“My life has blossomed every single day since moving to Peterborough. One thing keeps leading to another, so many doors have opened now that I have the independence to get around myself and embrace city life. I want to help spread the word and inspire others to try it all!”. states Todd.

“Lynda has taken the artwork to the top tier with the larger, more complex pieces that embrace a wealth of colour, and mysterious textures. The movement across her canvases is a dance in motion”. Kent states in describing Lynda’s work.
“Blossom”, was published on the front cover of Occupational Therapy Now, May/June 2021 edition. The artist’s statement on page 3 reads: Lynda says, “Blossom represents how an idea became a reality. As a legally blind and colour-blind artist, I visualized each petal as the skills, knowledge and actions to reach my dream and occupation as an artist blossomed.”
