Teen Charged With Impaired Driving After Call From Paramedics

KAWARTHA LAKES-A call received by Kawartha Lakes OPP related to a potentially impaired driver resulted in the arrest of a local resident for an alcohol-related offence.

On June 5, 2021 officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP received a call from the City of Kawartha Lakes EMS requesting assistance. Paramedics indicated that they had observed a disabled vehicle and stopped to check on the well-being of the driver, at which point they became concerned that the driver was impaired according to police.

The ensuing police investigation led to the arrest of the driver, Jackson Pretty, 18 years of age, who has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The vehicle was towed from the scene to be impounded for seven days as part of the offence. The accused party is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 24, 2021.
