Students From IE Weldon Secondary School Protest After Teacher Allegedly Penalized For Speaking Out About His Mental Health

KAWARTHA LAKES-Students from IE Weldon Secondary School In Lindsay took to the streets to protest today after a teacher was allegedly paced on leave for speaking about his mental health during class.

Students say Greer Pedoe is an amazing teacher who has helped numerous students feel comfortable about their own metal health issues because he is open about his own mental health. However, recently some parents heard about Pedoe speaking out during class and they complained to the board. Students say the board placed the teacher on leave. It’s unclear exactly what was said.

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board would not comment citing “privacy”. On Friday just before 11am the board issued an updated statement saying:

“We maintain strict confidentiality on all matters pertaining directly or indirectly to our students or our staff.Trillium Lakelands District School Board believes strongly in supporting the mental health and well-being of our students and staff. Our work to support mental health is aligned with School Mental Health Ontario. Feed All Four in Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) aligns teaching and learning with safe and accepting schools, mental health, healthy active living, and student well-being.”
