Coboconk Teen Facing Multiple Charges After Traffic Complaint

KAWARTHA LAKES-A traffic complaint received by Kawartha Lakes OPP resulted in the arrest of a teen driver for several offences.

Police say on May 11, 2021 an OPP officer responded to a traffic complaint related to a vehicle allegedly being operated at a high rate of speed on Highway 35, North of Coboconk. The officer located the suspect vehicle and the ensuing investigation revealed the presence of alcohol and cannabis in the vehicle according to police.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Niklas Savoie, 18 years of age, of Coboconk, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor in open baggage, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to the Criminal Code

The vehicle was towed from the scene. The accused party is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 2, 2021.
