Man Charged And Released After Axe Break-In, Later Charged Again With Impaired Driving

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 44 year old Oakwood man has been charged by police twice in the same day.

Police say on February 22, 2021, at 12:47 am the City of Kawartha Lakes Police were called to a Hwy 35 South, OPS TWP address for two males attempting to gain entry. The two males were reportedly using an axe to break open the door. Officers attended and arrested, 44-year-old Colin Harwood and 22-year-old Chance Labrie of Oakwood, who have been charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and mischief under $5000. The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice of Lindsay on April 22, 2021. 

On February 22, 2021 at 3:26 am the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Hwy 7 and Highway 35 South in Lindsay. The vehicle in question, had fake licence plates attached according to police.  During the investigation, the officer identified the driver as Colin Harwood, who had been charged previously in the evening and upon release, left the police service in a taxi.

44-year-old Colin Harwood of Oakwood was arrested for operation while prohibited. Further investigation, resulted in the accused being charged with impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, and one charge each in contravention of Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on April 22, 2021.
