KAWARTHA LAKES-The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge (HKPR)District Health Unit has confirmed there is a case of Coronavirus at St. Dominics Catholic Elementary School.
“There has been a confirmed case at St. Dominic’s and all impacted individuals have been notified.” Chandra Tremblay, Communications HKPR told Kawartha411 News.
Some family members have said the case seems be linked to a bus that was shared with Leslie Frost Elementary School.
“There is a possible case of COVID-19 on Bus K578. LFPS remains open and anyone with close contact with the individual has been contacted by the Health Unit.” said the Leslie Frost on Facebook. The Health Unit would not comment on a possible connection.
The news follows a letter that was posted on St. Dominic’s website on February 9th with regards to a probable case, which has now been confirmed by the health unit to be a positive case.
“Dear parents, guardians, and staff,
As always, the well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. With that in mind, we are letting you know that the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit has notified us of a possible case of COVID-19 at St. Dominic Catholic Elementary School.
As directed by HKPR, we have dismissed the individuals who were known to have been in close contact with the individual who is ill during their infectious period. Those identified as close contacts will be contacted by HKPRÂ and be provided further guidance. The individual who is ill is at home isolating and will return to school when they have recovered. The identity of the individual is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.
The school will remain open. Staff and students who are NOT directly advised to stay home are deemed low risk and should continue to attend school and self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the current time.
We continue to ask all students and staff to complete the daily self-assessment for symptoms before arriving at school: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening.
We continue to follow all public health and provincial recommendations, including thorough cleaning and disinfecting of all areas; frequent and proper handwashing by everyone in the building; wearing masks; maintaining physical distancing to the fullest extent possible, and following any other steps directed by the health unit.” stated the letter.
There has been no cases reported in connection with Leslie Frost.
