KAWARTHA LAKES-Two dog owners are facing charges after other dogs were attacked according to police.
Members of the Peterborough County OPP responded to an animal complaint on Kinsale Road in Selwyn Township on October 31, 2020 at approximately 5:00pm. Police say people reported that their dog had been attacked by another dog and had suffered serious injuries that required medical attention.
On November 27, 2020 at approximately 12:00pm, officers responded to a residence on Moodie Drive in Douro-Dummer Township. The complainant reported that their two dogs were attacked by their neighbour’s two dogs. Both of the complainant’s dogs suffered serious injuries that require ongoing medical attention according to police.
Both owners of the attacking dogs have been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in March 2021.
As stated in the Act, the owner of a dog shall exercise reasonable precautions to prevent it from,
(a) Biting or attacking a person or domestic animal; or
(b) Behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals
Police say it is important to be in control of your dog at all times.
