One Person Is Dead Another Airlifted To A Toronto Trauma Centre After Being Hit By Vehicle Near Port Hope

KAWARTHA LAKES-Northumberland OPP say a young boy is dead and his sister seriously injured after being truck by a vehicle near Port Hope this morning.

Members of the Northumberland County OPP along with Northumberland EMS and Hope Township Fire Department, responded to a serious collision that occurred at approximately 8:05 am on the 7th Line just west of Woodvale School Road.

Police say two pedestrians were struck by a northbound vehicle. One of the pedestrians was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel. The second pedestrian was transported by Ornge Air Ambulance to a trauma centre in Toronto to be treated for injuries sustained as a result of the collision.

The victims, a 12 year old boy and his 10 year old sister, are students at St Anthony Catholic Elementary School. The principal sent an email to families saying “As many of you are aware, there was a serious collision this morning that claimed the life of a St. Anthony CES student and sent his sister to the hospital with serious injuries.” Karen McCormack said. “Words cannot adequately express our profound shock and deep sorrow over this terrible event. The family has asked for your prayers at this time.”

The Board’s crisis response team has been at St. Anthony since this morning to support staff and students. That support, including social workers, will remain in place at the school in the days to come as needed.

The 7th Line is currently closed between County Road 28 and Campbell Road, while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measure and document the scene. The closure will remain in place for several hours while police investigate.

No names are being released at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
