KAWARTHA LAKES-Daniel Reid was sanitizing a table at the Bobcaygeon Inn restaurant and getting it ready for a group of seven guys who had made a dinner reservation on Saturday night when he realized this wasn’t an ordinary bunch.
“Tom was the first one there and I didn’t recognize him because he was wearing a mask.” Reid told Kawartha 411 News. “Then he took off his mask and said “Hi, I’m Tom” and I couldn’t believe it, it was Tom Cochrane.”
Tom Cochrane is best known as the frontman for the rock band Red Rider and for his work as a solo singer-songwriter. Cochrane has won eight Juno Awards. Cochrane remains one of only 3 male Canadian singer songwriters to have a diamond certified album in Canada (over a million copies sold). Mad Mad World is now around 1.7 million in Canada, and at over 3 million worldwide. Almost every Canadian and many others worldwide can sing along to his #1 hit, Life is a Highway. Other hits include, Victory Day, White Hot and Big League.
The group of seven guys also included Gil Moore the drummer From Triumph.
“It was a fun night, I felt it was really cool, everyone there felt very lucky.” Reid says. “They are a really good group of guys.”
Reid and his wife Joan have owned the Inn for about a year and a half and say they have had other celebs in but no one a big as Cochrane. He says no one bothered the group during dinner but as they got ready to leave people started recognizing them so they stood up and took off their masks momentarily for a group photo.
A source tells Kawartha 411 the group was apparently in town for a fishing weekend.
And in case you are wondering Cochrane had fish and chips!
