KAWARTHA LAKES-UPDATE All watches ended
Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:
- Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
An line of strong to severe thunderstorms is moving eastward through or toward the regions.
Damaging wind gusts, brief torrential downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and large hail will also be associated with some of these storms.
There also is the risk for a tornado.
Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Kawartha Lakes
- Apsley – Woodview – Northern Peterborough County
- Fenelon Falls – Balsam Lake Park – Northern Kawartha Lakes
- Lindsay – Southern Kawartha Lakes
- Peterborough City – Lakefield – Southern Peterborough County
Gusty showers and thunderstorms in many areas this evening.
Showers and thunderstorms ahead of a cold front are forecast to move eastward across the regions this evening. Wind gusts of 70 km/h, brief torrential downpours, and cloud-to-ground lightning will be associated with some of these storms.
