OPP lay numerous charges on local lakes over the weekend

KAWARTHA LAKES-The marine unit from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP laid multiple charges on our waterways this past weekend.

Boaters on Balsam Lake, Canal Lake and Sturgeon Lake would have observed the OPP’s marine unit on patrol according to police. During separate vessel checks, officers charged three persons with having open alcohol in the boat, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act as well as one person for having cannabis readily available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act.

The OPP is reminding boaters that impaired boating carries the same penalties as impaired operation of a vehicle. Boating safety is a shared responsibility that includes leaving intoxicants on shore and wearing your life jacket. Do your part to keep the waterways safe.
