Body of missing Scarborough man found in Minden Lake

KAWARTHA LAKES-The body of a missing Scarborough man was found in Minden Lake.

Police say on July 26, 2020 shortly before 5:30 p.m. police were called to the north end of the lake where a resident had located a male body near their dock.

Police have confirmed it to be that of 55-year-old Robert Smith. A post mortem examination will be scheduled at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto. Investigators do not suspect foul play in this death investigation.

Smith was last seen on July 22, 2020 in the Minden area.

Members of the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist Toronto Police Service on July 23, 2020, shortly after 4:00 p.m.

OPP officers located the missing man’s motorcycle in an overflow parking lot off of Horseshoe Lake Road in Minden Hills Township on July 24th.

OPP members from the Central Region Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Aviation Services searched the area. Additional resources from the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and Marine patrols later joined the search.
