Commercial vehicle driver charged after stop on Highway 35

KAWARTHA LAKES-A recent vehicle stop conducted by the OPP resulted in the arrest of the driver who was found to be in contravention of his release conditions according to police.

Police say on January 5, 2020 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP was patrolling on Highway 35 near Chamber’s Road when a flatbed truck was observed allegedly travelling too closely to the vehicle in front of it.

The officer stopped the vehicle and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver, Cameron Young, 26 years of age, who now faces the following charges:

  • Fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by officer in charge, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Driver commercial motor vehicle without required inspections, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Commercial vehicle follow too closely, contrary to the HTA
