Damage estimated to be more than $1million in Highway 36 fire

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a building on Highway 36 in Lindsay on Saturday.

Insurance adjusters were on the scene of the blaze earlier today and estimated the damages to be more than $1million.

The fire broke out in the building that houses Derry’s Restaurant, RDS Cleaning Supplies and an apartment around lunchtime on December 28th. Fire crews from four halls responded to the blaze with two relief crews also on site. Some firefighters remained on the scene on Sunday as smoke continued to billow from the building.

No one was injured in the blaze and the fire department says the restaurant was not open at the time the fire broke out. An elderly couple living upstairs was displaced.
