Fraudsters posing as police in Lindsay area

KAWARTHA LAKES-Police say Lindsay residents have been receiving calls from someone posing as a police officer.

According to police the caller has identified himself as police constable and claims to be investigating a criminal matter.  The caller then demands that money be forwarded to him or he will arrest and charge the victim.  “Scammers can be sneaky and very convincing.  They will target anyone in our community, from students and young people to retirees.”said Dave Murtha, KLPS.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service would like to remind the community to be on their guard when receiving telephone calls from anyone who requests personal or financial information, who requests payments through gift-cards or e-transfers, or who threatens you with punitive action such as a being arrested if you do not comply with their demands.

If you receive a suspicious telephone call, text message or email and suspect you are being targeted by fraudsters, please telephone the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service at (705)-324-5252.
