Toronto area driver charged with attempting to evade police

KAWARTHA LAKES-A Toronto area driver was arrested when he allegedly attempted to avoid the police.

Police say on September 7th an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP was patrolling Highway 35 near River Road when a vehicle was allegedly observed travelling at a high rate of speed. As the officer conducted a U-turn to facilitate the stopping of the vehicle, the vehicle entered a residential driveway according to police.  When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver was no longer present.

The driver was located a short distance away and the ensuing investigation resulted in the arrest of Chukwuma Nwanunobi, 47 years of age, for the offence of flight from peace officer, contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused was also charged with the initial speeding offence and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on October 17, 2019.
