Local company helps make a child’s wish come true

KAWARTHA LAKES-Six year old Harper loves the outdoors but a rare genetic disorder prevents her from embracing that love.

Harper was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder that typically presents with developmental delay, difficult-to-treat epilepsy, sensory, movement and sleep disorders, and complex communication needs (non- verbal). She loves to explore outside and in water with friends and family but can be quickly affected by heat, adverse weather, bugs and medical challenges.

Her wish through the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is for a travel trailer so she and her family can relax in comfort together.

Al and Stacey Robinson at Great Canadian RV in Peterborough were asked to help find a travel trailer that would be suitable for Harper’s specific needs, but fulfilling the wish requested quickly surpassed the original ask, with suppliers and partners stepping up to very generously donate everything the family will need to camp in comfort, and then some.

“We are gratified to have had such a tremendous outpouring of support from our industry partners and staff. Camping and RVing represents the fondest of memories for many, it is truly a pleasure to be involved in giving Harper and her family the opportunity to make memories of their own.” said Al and Stacey Robinson, Great Canadian RV.

Great Canadian RV partnered with Coachmen Catalina, Global Warranty, Camco, Wayfarer Insurance, and an anonymous supplier to make Harper’s wish come true.

“We are in, without a question we are in.” Harry Kirkwood, Global Warranty”Thank you for this opportunity we are delighted to be a part of such a special request.” said Josh Mason, Camco Manufacturing.

“You can count on Coachmen Catalina to partner with you on such an amazing opportunity.” Troy Maples, Coachmen Catalina says.

To date, the wish includes: a brand new 2019 Coachmen Catalina Summit 172 BH travel trailer, hitch, break control, bedding, towing mirrors, dishes, camping chairs for four, awning mat, Global extended warranty for six years, one year paid insurance and explorer RV club membership, cleaning product and RV starter kit.

“We are completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and generosity, and the coming together of community to make this wish happen in such a tremendous way for Harper and our family.” Justin and Sue, Harpers Parents exclaimed. “Al and Stacey at Great Canadian RV, in part through the wonderful relationships they’ve established with their partners, have gone above and beyond to help our family get out there together, to enjoy and explore life away from hospitals and appointments. We are all so very touched and so very grateful.”

The donation will be made at the fifth Annual Great Canadian RV Ltd. Open House which takes place on July 27th. This year it will include taste samplings from Moosehead Breweries, performances by Jordy Jackson and Kansas Stone and a meet-and-greet with James Barker of the James Barker Band, a barbecue hosted by Personal Touch Catering with donations benefiting the Children’s Wish Foundation.

In true RV style, James Barker, Canada’s biggest country star with multiple gold records, will be on hand to move his tour bus to unveil the New Catalina Summit and all the RV lifestyle necessities to see Harper and her family begin their outdoor adventures.

Great Canadian RV Ltd is located at 7960 Hwy 7 in Peterborough and  is family-owned and operated.
