Special Investigations Unit investigating “in custody” injury of 75 year old man in Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha 411 News has learned the Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU)is investigating after a 75 year old man sustained serious injuries.

Police say the incident happened on July 8th when officers were called to a domestic incident. The preliminary information from the SIU indicates that at approximately 4 p.m. on July 8, 2019, KLPS officers attended an address on Adelaide Street after receiving a call. Officers became involved in an interaction with a 75-year-old man and he was arrested. The man was taken to the police station, and then later transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.

The SIU invoked it’s mandate on July 9th.

Kawartha Lakes Police Service Chief Mark Mitchell says the SIU has talked to the complainant but has not yet designated any subject or witness officers.

The Special Investigations Unit investigates any time a member of the public is injured or killed during an interaction with the police.
