Fatal crash near Apsley this afternoon

PETERBOROUGH -One person is dead following a a head on crash near Apsley.

Members of the Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews were called to assist at a collision at approximately 4:15pm on Highway 28 north of Haultain Road.

Police say a head on collision occurred between two vehicles. A driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The deceased driver has been identified as 69 year old Carolyn Clement of Toronto, Ontario.

35 year old Christopher Ashton of Peterborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive while prohibited
  • Fail to comply with a Recognizance-two counts

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough later today for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.

Highway 28 was closed between Haultain Road and the Village of Apsley while members trained in Collision Reconstruction measured and documented the scene but has since reopened.
