Resident successfully advocates to have his road repaired in the 2019 budget

By Pat Warren

KAWARTHA LAKES-There was one deputation to speak to Council at the January 23rd Capital Budget meeting.

Doug O’Carroll of Bayview Estate Rd. spoke about the terrible condition of the road. He said that school buses won’t go down the road and postal delivery may be curtailed due to road conditions. There has been no re-resurfacing for 33 years. He said “I would like to see it in the capital budget.”

Mr. Carroll’s deputation paid off and his road was added to the budget as a decision unit. Councillor Elmslie said there was a deputation made in 2018 along with a petition. There was a motion made at that time for the road to be considered in the 2019 budget.
Also, there were three letters received regarding the condition of McGregor Dr.
Councillor Ashmore made a resolution to add McGregor Drive to the budget but was voted down. Ashmore again tried to add this road with money taken from Pigeon Road resurfacing project. Again, this was voted down.

The Mayor came to the rescue and suggested that if there was any money left over from the Pigeon Road construction, then it could be spent on McGregor Dr. This resolution passed so McGregor Dr. may see some relief this year.
