Beloved Doctor at Ross Memorial Hospital dies in crash

KAWARTHA LAKES-Dr. Ali Al-Beer, an orthopedic surgeon at Ross Memorial Hospital died in a crash yesterday on his way home from work.

“It is with sad hearts that the Senior Administration Team shares tragic news. On his way home from work yesterday, Dr. Ali Al-Beer was in a car accident and died of his injuries” said an email from the hospital to it’s staff.

Dr. Al-Beer joined the Ross team of orthopedic surgeons in August, 2011. “He was exceptionally talented and was well respected by his patients and his colleagues. Our thoughts are with Dr. Al-Beer’s family at this difficult time.”

The 49-year-old physician from Oshawa was fatally injured after being involved in a motor vehicle collision on Regional Road 20 near Darlington Manvers Townline Road in Clarington.

On Wednesday January 23, 2019 at approximately 5:08 p.m., officers from East Division were called to serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on Regional Road 20 east of Darlington Manvers Townline Road in Clarington.

A large commercial dump truck was eastbound on Regional Road 20 from Darlington Manvers Townline Road when it lost control and began to jackknife its attached trailer and veer into the westbound lane.  A black Nissan Rogue was approaching westbound on Regional Road 20 and collided with the jackknifed trailer.  The Nissan then left the roadway and struck a tree.

The male driver of the Nissan was extricated and rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.  He later died of injuries sustained in the collision.

The 50-year old driver of the involved commercial dump truck was uninjured and remained at the scene.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation.

Physicians and staff at the hospital are stepping up to ensure Dr. Al-Beer’s patients continue to receive care.
