Elderly man taken to hospital after house fire in Bobcaygeon

KAWARTHA LAKES-An elderly man was taken to Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay for observation after his house caught on fire on Monday morning.

Deputy Chief Bill Lockwood told Kawartha 411 the homeowner took in some smoke while going back into the fire to search for his cat. The cat has not been accounted for.

City of Kawartha Lakes Fire crews were called to the scene on Queen Street in Bobcaygeon  just before 11am Monday morning. This black smoke could be seen billowing throughout the village. A number of crews responded to the blaze.

Lockwood says the homeowner was attempting to thaw frozen pipes when the fire started.

The home is a total loss. Brutally cold temperatures made things difficult for firefighters. Lockwood says the equipment would freeze up when it got wet.
