Construction on craft brewery in Fenelon Falls set to begin

KAWARTHA LAKES-Building permits have been approved and construction is ready to begin on a new craft brewery in Fenelon Falls.

“We now have official confirmation from the City of Kawartha Lakes that our building permits have been approved and we’re ready to begin construction.” said brewery owners, Agatha and Vin in an email to Kawartha 411 on Sunday.

Mark Wilson and the team from MVW Consulting are working with the City on the plans.

“Our construction team consists of experienced tradesmen from Fenelon Falls and surrounding areas. Again, it’s our intention to continue supporting local business along the way, we will continue whenever we can, from equipment design to engineering, to construction, to staffing, to ingredients.” say the owners.

The custom-made brewhouse has already been built by Criveller Group, one of the oldest Canadian manufacturers in the industry and is waiting to be delivered to its new home in Fenelon Falls to start brewing 18-hectolitres of fresh craft beer. Currently there’s a Red Ale and a Vienna Lager already for sale through restaurants in Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Peterborough as well as select Sobey’s Stores.

The brewery will be located in the old Livery Stable building on May Street, across from the Locks. In 1901 it became a blacksmith shop run by Charles Kelly, a business that was still operating there into the 1960s. Kelly’s attention to his craft is still evident throughout the building, including his kiln and the mount for the tools that remain where he put them all those years ago.
