Apartment destroyed after fire breaks out in affordable housing units in Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-An apartment was completely gutted after a fire at Flynn Gardens on St Paul Street in Lindsay.

It happened on Friday shortly after 3pm. Platoon Chief Bill Lockwood told Kawartha 411 that it appears the fire started on an enclosed sun porch and then spread into the unit. The fire also got into the roof but was quickly contained by fire crews.

A woman was home at the time but managed to get out when the alarm went off. Officials say she was not injured.

The building was evacuated while crews worked to douse the blaze. Lockwood says all residents except the one unit were able to get back into their homes last night.

The cause is still undetermined. Damage is estimated to be approximately $75,000.
