KAWARTHA LAKES-Councillor John Pollard was seriously injured after falling from a float at the Fenelon Falls Santa Claus Parade on Saturday night.
Pollard was on a float with fellow Councillors Andrew Veale And Pat O’Reilly. All three were apparently standing in the back of a pick-up truck in the parade and waving to the crowd. He is the Ward 8, Lindsay, Councillor.
The truck was one of the first floats in the parade. The vehicle had to come to stop and when it started again Pollard fell backward off of the truck, hitting his head.
Gwen Pollard contacted Kawartha 411 and said John is in Intensive Care at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto with a “head” bleed but is expected to recover. They are worried about his back, which is awaiting a CT scan. His son Steve says he is stable and “in good spirits.”
The Fenelon Falls Santa Claus Parade Committee says they are reviewing their parade safety prodecures for future events and will look into how to prevent such incidents. “The Santa Day committee is deeply concerned about the accident at our parade yesterday and for Councillor Pollard and his family. We are very grateful for the suggestions and for the support expressed in the postings.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.
