Woman killed while crossing the road near Peterborough

UPDATE:Police have identified the victim as Susan Margaret Little of Peterborough, Ontario

PETERBOROUGH-Officers with Peterborough County OPP are investigating a fatal collision that  occurred shortly after 8:00pm Sunday evening.

Police say a pedestrian was attempting to cross Highway 7 near Lancaster Road when she was struck by a tractor trailer unit. The 56 year old female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 7 between Burnham Line and Drummond Line, east of Peterborough was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene. The road has since reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin are notified according to police.
