Films by the Falls gearing up for another successful season

KAWARTHA LAKES-Good news for local movie lovers. Films by the Falls and Kawartha Lakes Film Circuit are gearing up to kick off their 2017/2018 season on September 26th.

The season premiere will feature a presentation of Beatriz at Dinner. At an elegant dinner party in a swanky hilltop home, conversation between a soft- spoken holistic healer and a hard-nosed businessman explodes into a bitter clash of cultures in Beatriz at Dinner, the latest provocative film from director Miguel Arteta and screenwriter Mike White. Exploring the widening gulf between the world’s haves and have-nots with fierce insight and unexpected humor, Beatriz at Dinner addresses contemporary controversies, from economic inequality and conservation to the necessity of simple human kindness.

Beatriz, played by Salma Hayek, is portrayed as a self-effacing and spiritual immigrant from Mexico, has spent her adult life caring for the sick while neglecting herself. When her car breaks down and she is stranded at a client’s luxurious Newport Beach home overnight, her well-meaning employer Kathy (Connie Britton) insists she join them for a dinner party that evening. At an intimate and sumptuous celebration of her husband’s latest business venture, Beatriz is introduced to Doug Strutt (John Lithgow), a ruthless billionaire real estate developer. She listens uncomfortably while Doug brags about his aggressive business tactics, but when he boasts about shooting a rhino in Africa, she can no longer hold her tongue. As opposing worldviews collide over a dinner table, Beatriz’ spent up outrage spills out in a way that surprises even herself.

Kawartha Lakes Film Circuit was formed in 2013 by a group of volunteers that live in and near Fenelon Falls who wanted to share their passion for movies by bringing local residents the opportunity to experience the world through film.

Movies are screening on the last Tuesday of each month from September to May (excluding December).

The Season Premier screening will be held at the Fenelon Falls Secondary School on Tuesday September 26th. Tickets for Beatriz at Dinner will be available at the box-office door at a cost of $10 each on September 26th, 2017 or in advance at Sweet Bottoms Coffee House, Fenelon Falls.

Doors open at 6:30 PM with the feature presentation beginning at 7:30 PM. Fenelon Falls Secondary School is located at 66 Lindsay St.
