Police looking for witnesses after fatal crash near Haliburton

Two people have died after a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 118 between Trappers Trail and Essonville Line in Highlands East Township near Haliburton on Saturday.

Police say the collision happened when an east bound motor vehicle crossed the center line into the west bound lane where it collided with four of seven motorcycles travelling west bound.

Two people were fatally injured and two others suffered serious, life threatening injuries.

Members of the Central Region Technical Collision Investigation unit attended the collision scene to assist Haliburton Highlands OPP members with the investigation.

Highway 118 was closed at this location for several hours while the collision was investigated. Traffic was diverted at Paynes Road East and Paynes Road West. Highway 118 was reopened in both directions following the investigation
