Canadian hit TV series the Murdoch Mysteries is filming in Peterborough.

Crews from the Toronto based show took over King Street beside the JJ Turner building Thursday afternoon. Extras and actors were in period costume and horses and buggies took over the roads normally reserved for cars.

The series takes place in Toronto starting in 1895 and follows Detective William Murdoch played by Yannick Bisson, of the Toronto Constabulary, who solves many of his cases using methods of detection that were unusual at the time. These methods include fingerprinting or “finger marks” as it’s referred to in the series, blood testing, surveillance, and trace evidence.

Onlookers took to the street to watch the excitement.

  1. Dear Murdoch Mysteries folks. Just south of Peterborough is Roseneath. They have a restored carousel that was built in Abiliene, Kansas in 1906 and installed at the Roseneath Fairgounds in 1932. It opens for the season this weekend on Sundays 1 to 3pm. Perhaps a mystery could find its way there. They have a Facebook page if you are interested.
