Special weather statement issued for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough

Keep the umbrella handy a significant amount of rain is predicted for later this weekend into Monday.

Environment Canada says an intensifying low pressure system emerging from Texas could soak southern portions of the province beginning later tonight for Southwestern Ontario including Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough, on Sunday.

Several rounds of rain are expected with some heavier thunderstorms in many areas. Total general rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimetres are anticipated through Monday before it tapers off. But some areas which receive more persistent thunderstorms are likely to be impacted by 50 to 75 mm.

Rainfall warnings are likely to be issued for some regions.
