21-Year-Old Driver Facing Charges After Almost Hitting A Pedestrian

KAWARTHA LAKES-A 21-year-old driver is facing impaired driving charges after narrowly missing a pedestrian on Friday night at approximately 9:30 p.m.

An officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling in the area of Glenelg Street and Lindsay Street without its headlights on according to police. Police say they followed the vehicle for a short distance, during which several driving offences were observed, including failing to yield to pedestrians using a crosswalk on Wellington Street.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was investigated. The officer formed grounds to believe the male driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving and was impaired. The driver was placed under arrest and later provided breath samples that were well over the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with Operation While Impaired (Alcohol and Drugs), Operation While Impaired (Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg), and three additional Provincial Offences Act charges.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the accused driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
